Interning at MSI: Personal Commentary
By Nathan Fenske (October 2025)
What do up and coming professionals hope to gain when pursuing an internship? For me, I wanted to learn something in the world of business that I couldn’t in a classroom. After 3 months of work at Measured Strategies, Inc., I can confidently say I have accomplished this goal.
I’ve been exposed to what it means to make an impact. For some organizations, that means driving bottom line – other companies it means expanding their reach and services. I’ve learned there are many definitions for the word “impact”, and it depends on who you ask. Gaining experience working in the public and private sector, I’ve seen this contrast firsthand.
At Measured Strategies, the word “impact” is inherently dependent on the institutions served. What I found interesting was how the purpose behind each project, or task I was assigned was always different. Although, there was always a common theme of internalizing the mission of the organizations we served. This was the ideology that Measured Strategies incorporates into its services to truly drive organizational success. Throughout my time I’ve improved my skills in thinking 3-dimensionaly and putting myself in the position of our partnered organization. I found myself constantly asking myself “what would I like to see if I was this person, leading this team”. With this, each project continuously challenged me to consider not only what an organization needs, but how my contributions could enable real, lasting change for the communities served.
Reflecting on my internship at Measured Strategies, I realize how profoundly working alongside community-driven clients has reshaped my perspective about what it means to make an “impact”.
